Empty coal rake derails near Rupnagar

Empty coal rake derailed near village Kotla Nihang near Rupnagar around mid night. No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported in the mishap.
According to information the rake was returning to Ambala side after unloading coal at Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant,Rupnagar when around 12:15 am a herd of bullocks came on the railway line in front of it as a result of which the several wagons of the rake were derailed and overturned.
At least 16 of the 58 wagons of the rake were damaged and rail traffic on Sirihind-Una section was affected and no train could reach Rupnagar railway station after the accident and some trains were cancelled..
In addition, power lines and poles were also damaged. The rail traffic of Sirhind-Una section is likely to be restored by Monday evening.
