End to uncertainty as SBS State University, Ferozepur gets new VC after previous appointee declined to join

Punjab Governor has appointed Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma as the vice chancellor of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur.
Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma is Professor of Statistics at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Earlier in April 2025, Punjab government had appointed DP Goyal as the first vice chancellor of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur . But he failed to join the only university established in the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and joins Thapar Institute’s Dera Bassi campus as Director.
Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur a technical university offering engineering courses only.

(Non-Medical): Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, India (1982).
From 2009-till date he is Professor, Department of Statistics, Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. He was awarded with Jacob Wolfowitz Award 2003 on his research paper titled ‘Simultaneous Multiple Comparisons with the Worst and Best’. This paper appeared in Vol. 22 of the American Journal of Mathematical and Management Sciences, 2003 jointly with Prof. Neeraj Misra (IIT Kanpur) and Prof. A.N. Gill (Dept. Of Statistics, Panjab University, Chandigarh).
Best Research Award for ‘Linearization of the relationship between serum sodium, potassium concentration, their ratio and time since death in Chandigarh zone of north–west India’ has been awarded the best research in field of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology in year 2002-2003 at Fourth Annual National Conference of Indian Congress of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (ICFMJ-2003) held at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India from 22-23 March 2003 (Co-Authors: Dr. Dalbir Singh et al)
