It is alleged that Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) and Punjab state transmission corporation limited (PSTCL) management is planning to sell or lease out powercom’s valuable land, assets, properties located in various parts of Punjab.
As per available information, on September 15,2025, an emergent meeting was held in this regard at Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana by all unions/associations of PSPCL/PSTCL. In this meeting, the leaders of all unions discussed the vital issues concerning PSPCL/PSTCL.
“The most important matter that came up for discussion, as confirmed by reliable sources, was that the government and management are about to sell or lease valuable lands and assets of the department. These include prime properties located in major cities of Punjab such as Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Mohali, etc., where our power houses, offices, stores are situated and some vacant lands that could otherwise be used for the department’s future growth. Such actions could endanger the very existence of PSPCL/PSTCL” said the spokesperson of PSEB Engineers Association (PSEBEA).
The spokesperson of the powercom employees association said “In addition, it came into notice that there is a planning to use the existing PSPCL Guest House located in Power Colony No. 1, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana after renovation by the government for their private interests. It was also highlighted that under the guise of schemes for the department’s progress and uninterrupted power supply, a non-technical person who have no knowledge of the power sector has been appointed above departmental officers in the PSPCL Central Zone office, Ludhiana. His role is to collect all essential and important documents of department and forward them to the government so that the authorities can enforce their own agenda.”
PSEBEA general secretary Ajaypal Singh Atwal added that “another issue raised in the meeting was the severe shortage of staff. Because of this, employees and officers of the department are facing countless difficulties in delivering timely public services. It was demanded that the government and management should recruit the required staff so that better facilities can be provided to the public, instead of selling departmental lands and weakening the department.”
In a press release, it is said that “The meeting of 15.09.2025 was attended by leaders of the PSEB Engineers’ Association, PSEB Joint Forum, Association of Junior Engineers, Technical Services Union (Reg. no. 29), Technical Services Union (Sangharshi Front), Council of Junior Engineers, Ministerial Services Union, PSEB Employees Federation (AITUC) and leader of various other organizations. The leaders of all present PSPCL/PSTCL unions issued a warning to the government and management that if any step is taken which may causes harm to the department’s properties/assets, then all unions across Punjab will launch protests and a complete strike without any notice. The entire responsibility for such consequences will lie with the government and the management. UNITY IS STRENGTH.”
