Entry is free in Patiala Heritage Festival; new features added this year-DC

“Entry is totally free in all events and we warmly invite all the residents to watch this year Patiala Heritage Festival with some added flavours, starting from February 22nd to February 28th “said DC Patiala Kumar Amit while releasing the  programme of events of Patiala Heritage Festival

Giving details, festival nodal officer Poonamdeep Kaur said that “as per the programme, the Crafts Mela will be inaugurated on 22nd Feb 2020 at 3: 00 pm at sheesh mahal where 150 craftspersons from various parts of India will participate in the craft mela. On the same day Patiala Heritage Festival will be inaugurated at qila Mubarak, showcasing Patiala’s history by Harbux Singh Latta.

On Sunday, February 23rd  a dog show will start at 10 am at polo ground and in the evening a performance by Raja Radha Reddy ,a Kuchipudi dancing couple, awarded with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards , Subha Mudgal , an Indian singer of Hindustani classical music, who was also awarded with Padma Shri will perform at qila mubarak.

On February 24th a flower and food festival will be organized at baradri gardens where students were invited to showcase their culinary and artistic talents. In the evening Ud Shahid Parvez, an Indian classical sitar player from the Imdadkhani gharana, Padma Shri Shovana Narayan a famous and recognized Indian Kathak dancer and is an officer with Indian Audit and Accounts Service will gave live performances at qila Mubarak from 6.30pm onwards.

On Tuesday February 25th a film dedicating to 550 years of Guru Nanak Dev ji “ Nanak Noor-E-Ilahi” directed by Vishal Sharma will be screened at 11.00-12.00 and 12:00 pm-1:00 pm at Phul cinema, Patiala and a play by Manpal Tiwana “ Diva Bale Sarri Raat’ will be staged at NIS at 7:00 pm .

On Wednesday, February 26th a Polo match will be played at New Polo Ground (Aviation club) on Patiala Sangrur road at 2:00 pm and  Padma Bhushan awardee Ud Zakir Hussain, an Indian tabla expert and eldest son of legendary tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha will gave his live performance at qila Mubarak from 7:00 pm onwards.

On Thursday February 27th a vintage car rally will start from Chandigarh at 9:30 am, will reach Punjabi university campus where it will be displayed for students. From Punjabi university it will go in a rally to sirhind bypass, mini secretariat, Thapar College, Bhupindra road, fountain chowk, lower mall, Mohindra college and culminate at Phul cinema. In the evening a fashion show by Harmeet Bajaj will be organized at NIS from 7:00 pm.

On the concluding day , February 28th an aeromodelling will be organized at aviation ground from 11:00 am onwards. In the evening a pop show by Jashan Singh and Ranjit Bawa will be organized at polo ground.

Further elaborating, Patiala deputy commissioner Kumar Amit said “Patiala Postal Division and Narinder Pal Singh will also hold an exhibition of Numismatic  and Philatelic heritage of Phulkian States from February 22nd-24th “.He further said that this year festival will be highlighted, updated on social media also. For this a facebook page, instagram page- Patialaheritagefestival and Patialaheritage on twitter account were also made. Special information centers were also established for heritage festival (0175-2311300/1) and Crafts mela (0175-2311306).

DC also disclosed that this year parking at craft mela at sheesh mahal will be managed by district administration in association with traffic police and will be free for all.
