The Department of Physics at Punjabi University, Patiala, organized an expert lecture on Nuclear Astrophysics. Dr. Gagandeep Singh from Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany, delivered a lecture titled “Nuclear Astrophysics Seen from a Nuclear Reaction Perspective.” Beginning with the origin of the universe through the Big Bang, which occurred 13.8 billion years ago, he explained the formation of elements, stars, and galaxies. He stated, “The entire observable universe is composed of only 4% matter; all of us are made of stardust.” Dr. Singh emphasized the evolution of stars through nuclear reactions. Students interacted enthusiastically with the speaker.
Prof. Anup Thakur, Head of the Department of Physics, remarked, “The Physics Department has a long tradition of organizing such expert talks, allowing students the opportunity to engage with internationally renowned scientists and academicians.” Ramanujan Fellow Dr. Shubhchintak introduced the speaker, and Dr. Karamjit Singh Dhaliwal delivered the vote of thanks.
