Due to the ongoing farmers stir in Punjab and interruption in telephone, internet services of Reliance Jio network in Punjab, the company expressed it’s inability to complete the internet connectivity project of Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) by December 31,2020, as per PSPCL requirement.
The powercom contract with the earlier service provide Sify Technologies was expired on December 31,2020 and the powercom wanted the Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) to complete the internet connectivity work , before the expiry of their contract with Sify Technologies, so that all the powercom offices be integrated with the Data Centre.
Punjab state power corporation limited has allotted a tender of internet connectivity to Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd. (RJIL) , before the farmers agitation started. The company won the tender after passing through a proper tendering process. Earlier the internet services at PSPCL, were rendered by Sify Technologies, upto December 31,2020.
To cope up with the last minute inability shown by the telecom giant Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd. (RJIL), PSPCL chief engineer IT issued a letter on December 29,2020 to chief engineer DS Border zone, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Patiala and Dy CE Billing, Patiala , to make emergency arrangements , so that powercom valuable consumers won’t suffer.

Therefore the SAP connectivity will be discontinued by Sify Technologies from 01-01-2021. A new work order has already been issued to Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd (RJIL) for provisioning the SAP connectivity and the work is in progress but due to ongoing agitation of farmers the work of RJIL to provision the links before 31-12-2020 has got affected and the firm has intimated that the MPLS links at some of the high priority offices may not be migrated to RJIL by 31-12-2020.”

When contacted Er Harjit Singh, chief engineer IT Cell of PSPCL, he said “we have already made the necessary arrangements and directed the field officers of the concerned offices to avail internet connectivity during the intervening period , so that official working of SAP Sub Divisions , cash Counters, Suvidha Centre & CBC’s, CSCs etc. does not hamper due to non- availability of internet connectivity and consumer services can be delivered uninterruptedly.”
