Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar today said he hoped that better sense would prevail and protesting farmers will eventually vote for the BJP in Punjab given that the issues of agitating farmers can only be addressed by the next BJP government at the Center which now appears inevitable.
He said the farmers were being misused and misled by the AAP in Punjab which is dangerously scripting unrest during elections. “I appeal to farmers to use their wisdom while voting. They should vote for the party that can address their issues. The BJP has always been open for a dialogue and will address issues of farmers,” Jakhar said addressing news persons in Sangrur today. He was flanked by Arvind Khanna, who had filed his nominations as a BJP candidate on Monday.
Sunil Jakhar said two union ministers had come from Delhi and had talked to the farmer organizations. “CM Bhagwant Mann then acted as an advocate meddling in the talks. Where has he disappeared now and why isn’t he talking to the farmers anymore. The problem is he was a wrong choice as a self-appointed advocate,” the state BJP chief said, adding that farmers should protest peacefully and democratically instead of sitting on railway tracks, and roads and disrupting traffic and causing harassment to traders and people.
Sunil Jakhar said Punjab has virtually become a police cantonment and the law and order is abysmally poor. “No women are safe in the state. There is extortion and other crimes. Drug menace is rampant under the AAP rule in Punjab,” Jakhar said. The BJP president said the two-terms of Bhagwant Mann as MP from Sangrur have been disastrous with development work coming to a standstill.

He also cautioned people against the treacherous designs of the AAP and Congress who have tried to divide people on sectarian and Hindu-Sikh lines. “They are hand in glove, two sides of the same coin operating dangerously. People should be cautious about whom to vote for,” he said referring to the tacit understanding between the Congress and the AAP in Punjab.
