Five-Day Faculty Induction Programme concludes at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib successfully conducted its five-day Faculty Induction Programme, marking a significant step towards fostering academic excellence and professional growth among its newly appointed faculty members. The induction programme, held from July 29 2024 to August 2 2024, was inaugurated by Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar, Pro-Chancellor of the University. In his inaugural address, Prof. Brar emphasized the commitment of the University to ensuring quality teaching, fostering a strong research culture, and maintaining accountability and sincerity towards students. He inspired the new faculty to strive for excellence and to contribute actively to the University’s mission of providing top-tier education.
Dr. Harneet Billing, Head Department of Education and Coordinator of the programme, shared that the event was attended by 125 faculty members across different departments of the university. The programme included a variety of sessions on teaching methodologies, research opportunities, and institutional policies, designed to help faculty integrate smoothly into the University’s academic environment.
In the first technical session, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs elaborated on the vision, mission, and functioning of the University. He provided an in-depth understanding of the university’s ’s strategic goals and operational framework, highlighting the institution’s dedication to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement. On the second day, Prof. Rupinder Singh from NITTTR Chandigarh deliberated on designing minor and major research projects. His session focused on the essential components of research design, funding opportunities, and effective project management strategies. Additionally, Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Librarian, led a session on research and publication ethics, emphasizing the importance of maintaining integrity and ethical standards in academic research.
The third day featured Prof. Jasvir Chahal, who discussed advanced pedagogies. She introduced innovative teaching methods aimed at enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes. Following this, Dr. Anuradha Sekhri, Associate Professor at IDC, delivered a talk on using Bloom’s Taxonomy. Her session provided insights on structuring curriculum and assessments to promote higher-order thinking skills among students. In the afternoon session Dr. Ankdeep Attwal, Coordinator IQAC discussed NAAC accreditation reforms and the maintenance of documents. Dr. Attwal highlighted the importance of adhering to accreditation standards and maintaining comprehensive documentation to ensure continuous improvement and quality assurance within the university.
On the fourth day, Dr. Ramesh Arora, Director of IQAC, spoke about the quality mandate in higher education institutions as per NEP 2020. He emphasized the reforms introduced by the National Education Policy 2020 and their implications for maintaining and enhancing quality in higher education. Dr. Sumit Kumar, Head of the Department of Economics, discussed curriculum restructuring in the University in alignment with NEP 2020. His session focussed on the new curricular frameworks and pedagogical approaches designed to foster holistic and multidisciplinary education.
The concluding day featured a talk by Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Director of ICC, who addressed the importance of ensuring a safe working environment at the university. She highlighted policies and practices aimed at promoting safety and well-being for all staff and students. Dr. Tejbir Singh, Registrar of SGGSWU, discussed examination and evaluation reforms. His session covered the latest changes in examination protocols and assessment techniques to enhance transparency and fairness in the evaluation process.
The valedictory function was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, as the Chief Guest. In his valedictory address, Prof. Ahuja shared insights from his own life experiences, using personal anecdotes to emphasize the importance of quality education. He spoke about the transformative impact of education and how his own journey was shaped by a commitment to excellence and ethical practices. Prof. Ahuja urged the faculty to embrace collaboration and interdisciplinary research, stressing that these elements are crucial for driving innovation and achieving academic success. His address was a compelling reminder of the profound influence educators can have on their students and the broader academic community.
Prof. Pritpal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University, delivered a compelling address during the closing session. He underscored the University’s commitment to fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation. Prof. Singh highlighted the importance of integrating the insights and skills gained from the induction programme into everyday academic practices. He emphasized the role of faculty in driving the University’s mission forward, encouraging them to leverage their newfound knowledge to inspire and lead both students and colleagues towards achieving excellence.
