Geja Ram wants posts of safai karamcharis and sewermen to be filled immediately

Taking serious notice of non-filling of sanctioned posts of Safai karamcharis and Sewermen by Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats,the Chairman of Punjab State Safai Karamchari Commission Geja Ram issued instructions to the authorities concerned to fill up the vacancies in a timely manner.
Presiding over a joint meeting of all the departments in the committee room of District Administrative Complex, Geja Ram expressed concern over the problems faced by the safai karamcharis and said that it had been brought to the notice of the Commission that posts of safai karamcharis were lying vacant in most of the Municipal Councils and remaining small number of safai karamcharis were being forced to do extra duty,which was a direct violation of the rules.
He said that the municipal councils which had not forwarded the resolutions for regularising the services of contract employees ,should immediately complete the process so that the employees could be given their due rights.
He said that the salary of safai karamcharis and sewermen should be released as per DC rate and no more than 8 hours work should be taken from the employees.
He said that the recruitment of more safai karamcharis and sewermen in the municipal councils in proportion to the area should be done within the stipulated time frame. He also clarified that under the orders of Punjab government no employee could be recruited on contract basis now.
Geja Ram said that it was unfortunate that the sewermen were being sent to the sewage water for cleaning the sewers without providing safety kits due to which a large number of these innocent workers were still dying in the state.
Geja Ram wants posts of safai karamcharis and sewermen to be filled immediately . He directed the Municipal Councils to submit the complete information regarding the procurement of safety kits and tenders to the commission and in case of death of any sewerman the commission would definitely take action against the concerned officials.
