GNDU student Bhupinder Kaur awarded prestigious Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellowship

Bhupinder Kaur, a post graduate student of Department of Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University has been awarded with prestigious Shastri- Indo Canadian Research fellowship for 12 weeks to undertake a project on “Organic and Medicinal chemistry” in Canada. Under this, Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute will provide travel grant, living allowance, visa fee, compliance fee and overseas insurance to Bhupinder Kaur.
Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu Vice Chancellor said that Guru Nanak Dev University is very proud of these outstanding students for setting their sights on elite awards that will help them improve the world using their own respective gifts. This Programme will provide an opportunity for a transformative cultural and educational experience. Scholars will get exposure in an international setting which will bring lifelong benefits to the individual trainees as well as to the institutions in which they would be affiliated. The training and exposure they will receive will also broaden their understanding of research techniques, principles, and interdisciplinary approaches and thus will expand their scholarly horizons, a necessary step in becoming a more confident researcher in any corner of the world. Such an experience will also provide invaluable insights into the nature of the bi-national academic community and may often result in lifelong friendships and a broad bi-national professional network.
Dr. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi , Coordinator University Industry Linkage Programme said that Guru Nanak Dev University became a member of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI), New Delhi in year March, 2019 . Membership of SICI brings several benefits and opportunities for its member institutions. SICI has student fellowships intended to encourage young scholars/students. This programme provides opportunities for exposure in an international academic and research setting which brings lifelong benefits to the individual trainees. On the other hand, the Institutional Collaborative Research grants are to encourage and promote collaborative research and development between Indian and Canadian Institutions in the areas in which Indian Institutions can gain and develop.
Bhupinder kaur said “I feel extremely honoured and appreciative for receiving this significant award which boosts my confidence and inspiration to realize my dreams in developing innovative, creative society where individuals stand the chance to become global players. In line with this, I am very thankful for the award which definitely helps to alleviate my financial burden needed to complete my internship in Canada. I am very thankful to our Vice Chancellor, Coordinator and Head of the Department to give this opportunity in pursing my dreams to better myself in order to contribute to society and feel good about myself.
