GNDU students bought out rally against stubble burning

A rally against stubble burning was organized by the NSS Unit-II Volunteers of Guru Nanak Dev University. More than 20 villages under Chogawan block of Amritsar Distt were covered to create awareness among farmers not to burn stubble.

The rally was flagged by Sukhdev Singh. Chief Agriculturalist, Punjab Pollution Control Board, Amritsar along with Prof. H S Gujaral, NSS Coordinator  and Dr. Rajesh Kumar, NSS Programme Officer of the Guru Nanak Dev University.

Sukhdev Singh said that this campaign against stubble burning has been initiated by Punjab Pollution Control Board, Govt. of Punjab. He said that stubble burning is a major issue in Punjab as it is dangerous for the environment. He said that so many respiratory diseases born because of this. He said that the preservation of the clean and green environment is our responsibility so the need of hour is to create awareness against stubble burning and initiatives for constructive use of this stubble needed to be planned.

During this rally, the volunteers of the University met farmers and their families for spreading awareness about the harms of stubble burning. They were administered pledges for not burning stubble ever in future.They  were told about the use of Haapy Seeder for cultivation of new crop without burning of stubble in their farmlands. Farmers were also informed about the various subsidies and programmes  that are being made available to them by the state government from time to time.
