GNDU VC appreciated the online interaction programme organized by NAAC

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu and officials of Guru Nanak Dev University here today attended the online interaction programme with Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister of Human Resource Development in the Multimedia Room of Senate Hall Building of Guru Nanak Dev University. On this occasion, Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Registrar; Prof. Hardeep Singh, Dean Student’s Welfare; Prof. Manoj Kumar, Prof. Incharge Examinations; Prof. T.S. Benipal, Dean College Development; Prof. Balwinder Singh, Prof. Incharge F&D; Prof. Renu Bhardwaj, Director IQAC and other officials of the University were present.
Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank addressed the higher education institutions on the theme “Turning Challenges into Opportunities to Combat the Threat of COVID-19”. As many as 45000 representatives from various education institutions from all over India attended this programme and also participated in live interaction. This programme was organized online by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore.
In light of above, expressing his views, Prof. Sandhu said that Guru Nanak Dev University is committed for the upliftment of the status of higher education in the University. He said that during lockdown period, the University has been constructively engaged with various online activities for the student, faculty, employees and for the humanity at large. He hoped that this interaction would be useful for motivating faculty and students of higher education institutions and encouraged them to prepare for facing the challenges in future.
Pokhriyal, in his address, said that education is the backbone of India. The world is looking at how India’s education system has accepted the current challenge and managed the massive student population in the country during this period.
He said that HRD Ministry has instituted a task force under UGC and NCERT and this task force is working on the various guidelines with focus on the safety of the students. As per the guidelines the universities would begin the final examinations in July. In case, the situation in the particular zone is still not conducive for the examination, measures would be taken to find alternatives.
He said that new education policy would lay the foundation for the upliftment of education scenario of the country. India is now looking towards its ‘gurus’ – the teachers. Teachers touched the lives of 34 crore students and 100 crore people in the country. He emphasized that new education policy would be based on Science and Technology, focussed on India’s cultural heritage and would aim at building a new India – Swasth, Swachh, Shashakt and Shrestha Bharat (a healthy, clean, powerful and best India).
He said that UGC is working on identifying top 100 universities in the country who would be allowed to offer online degree courses. The emphasis is to ensure that the quality of the curriculum is not affected. Also, evaluation for online degree courses would be different from regular courses.
A new program on promoting Research in the country would soon be started. The institutions, teachers and students have all puckled up to accept the challenges presented by COVID19. Our NITs and IITs have worked on various technologies to help the country in a commendable manner.
He thanked the teachers and professors who have worked hard to help students during this situtation. He congratulated the universities and higher education institutions for ensuring that learning did not stop even during this panedemic.
