Good News for Govt employees: Cabinet approved setting up of next pay Commission

As per reports, the Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the setting up of the Eighth-Pay Commission. Likely to be implemented from 2026

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Prime Minister has approved the 8th Central Pay Commission for all employees of Central Government.”

The minister informed that the chairman and two members of the Commission will be appointed soon.

A pay commission is constituted by the central government once every decade to revise the salary structure of its employees. In addition to revising the salary structure, each pay commission has a term of reference (ToR), which broadly defines its focus. Pay commissions also decide pension payments.

The move has been awaited by over one crore central government employees and pensioners, who are anticipating the formation the commission to help revise their basic pay, allowances, pension, and other benefits.
