“In Punjab, we have approved Rs 1255.59 crore for the construction of a 4-lane access-controlled Northern Patiala Bypass, spanning 28.9 km. This new bypass will complete the ring road around Patiala, significantly reducing traffic congestion in the city. The project will also improve regional connectivity and facilitate the smooth movement of goods and logistics, providing a major boost to the area’s infrastructure and economy” shared Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on his X account.

In the first phase, in 2017, the southern bypass connecting traffic from Chandigarh-Bathinda without entering Patiala was finally inaugurated and opened for common public. Few years ago, to decongest city’s roads, the state government had conceptualized the idea to construct a ring road around the royal city Patiala. That ring road will prevent vehicles coming from other parts of Punjab and areas bordering Haryana from entering the city daily.

“Northern Patiala Bypass was approved after the issuance of Government Notification 3A in August and October 2021, followed by Notification 3D which was issued three to four months after 3D notification. The Project was put on hold by NHAI for unknown reasons and the farmers were prohibited from selling/ transferring or even obtaining bank loans against their property.
