Good News for Women’s: Punjabi University developed technology to solve the issue related to women’s safety

A special technology has been developed through a research, by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala to solve many issues related to the safety of women at different places in the society. The research titled ‘Development of Real-Time Intelligent System for Women’s Safety’ by researcher Priyanka under Dr. Kawaljit Singh and Dr. Brahmleen K. Sidhu’s supervision has attracted the attention of experts in the field due to the innovative approach adopted in it.
Researcher Priyanka said that an android-based mobile app designed to address immediate safety needs. The app features real-time location tracking for authorized guards and female students in the campus, offering SOS facilities for prompt assistance in emergencies, she told ahead. The app’s functionality extends to sharing automatic live locations with authorities and contacts, including the police, friends, relatives, doctors, ambulance services, and fire brigade during emergencies. Priyanka also told that she integrated features allowing the recording of evidence through front and back camera images, enhancing accountability and aiding investigations.
Dr. Kawaljit Singh said that while this research shows dedication and commitment to the welfare of women and students on the one hand, it also highlights the effective use of technology in promoting women’s safety. He said that the unique features of this technology include that this app has user-friendly features and is based on real-time tracking methods. He said that there is scope and potential for further improvements in this technology for professional use at further levels.
Dr. Brahmleen K. Sidhu said that with this technology developed through research, women will have the ability to proactively check the safest routes before venturing out alone, which will be possible through advanced technologies like data science and machine learning. She said that this technology predicts safe routes by classifying them through various safety criteria.
