GOPA foundation announces fellowship for Botany students

A function was organized in the Department of Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala for the announcement of two fellowships by Dr. J.S. Dargan, former Professor on behalf of Gopa Foundation.
Prof. Arvind, Vice-Chancellor was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Prof. J.S. Dargan, President Gopa Foundation and Prof. Gurpaul Singh, Member Gopa Foundation were the Guest of Honour. Prof. Davinder Pal Singh Head Department of Botany in his welcomed the guests and thanked Prof. J.S. Dargan for encouraging the students through this initiative.
Prof. Manruchi Kaur introduced Prof. J.S. Dargan and Porf. Gurpaul Singh to the audiance and highlighted their academic and administrative accomplishments during the tenure of their active service in the university. On this occasion Prof. J.S. Dargan shared information about the purpose and activities of Gopa Foundation formed in the memory of his wife Late Prof. Brijinder Kaur Dargan.
He said that the Foundation has been trying to help the underprivileged children to get quality education. He also informed that the education and daily expenses of many school children of Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were being borne by the foundation. In continuation of this initiative, it has been decided to provide two scholarships of Rs. 11,000/- per student to the of Department of Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala from the session 2021-22.
In his presidential remarks Prof. Arvind, Vice-Chancellor thanked Prof. Dargan for this initiative. Prof. Arvind also said that and honour for the Department to be associated with its former Faculty through such a noble cause. He also said that Punjabi University would extend all possible help to provide higher education to the needy and gifted students.
He wished that other departments of the university would also make similar efforts. On this occasion a book entitled, “Fight to the End and an Inspiring Journey of Grit and Optimism” written by Prof. J.S. Dargan in memory of his late wife was also released. Prof. Jasvirinder Singh Khattar thanked the guests on this occasion. The stage was conducted by Dr. Avneet Pal Singh.
