Heritage Festival to start with recital of Shabad by students
Patiala Additional Deputy Commissioner, Poonamdeep Kaur met Punjabi University Vice Chancellor, Professor BS Ghuman in his office to seek active participation by the various departments of the Punjabi University in Heritage festival to hold in Patiala after a gap of 11 years.
Punjabi University Vice Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman acceded the request of the district administration and agreed to associate itself with Patiala Heritage Festival to be held from Feb. 21 to March 3.
It was decided in the meeting between Vice Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman and Patiala Additional Deputy Commissioner, Poonamdeep Kaur that the festival would start with the recital of a shabad from Guru Granth Sahib by the students of university’s gurmat sangeet department.
Professor BS Ghuman, said the centuries old priceless items, decorating the Punjabi University museum and art gallery will comprise one of the venues for the visitors to the festival.
Professor Ghuman also informed that Punjabi University department of music will join the festivities by performing classical, vocal and instrumental items.The Punjab Folk Festival, being organized by the department of youth welfare as an annual feature of Punjabi University will also constitute a part of the heritage festival, which includes traditional and vanishing art and cultural forms of Punjab, It will also exhibit a performance of folk orchestra which is the trademark of Punjabi University.
