IAS cadre overlooked? Senior IPS officer appointed special principal secretary to CM Punjab

Punjab government has appointed senior IPS officer Gaurav yadav of 1992 batch as special principal secretary to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. Yadav remained on Ex-India leave from 17.01.22 to 21.03.22. With in few days after joining back, he got this plum posting.
Normally this post is given to an IAS officer. As per available information this is for the first time that an IPS officer is appointed on this post which that was kept for IAS officer. In 2017, ADGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu was appointed Special Principal Secretary to then CM Capt Amarinder Singh, so that he could directly report to Amarinder about special operations against drug trade only.
It is said that Gaurav Yadav is a batch mate of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal .Incidentally, Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal had cleared the Civil Services Examination together in 1992. While Yadav got selected in the Indian Police Service, Kejriwal went for the Indian Revenue Service.
He is B.E.,(Mech.Engg.),M.A. (Police Admn.), P.Hd. Yadav, son-in-law of former Punjab DGP PC Dogra, has held several important postings.
