IIT Ropar celebrates National Technology Day

Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Ropar celebrated National Technology Day on 12 May, 2022 with a series of invited talks and an exhibition of the posters, product and innovations from the IIT Ropar students. The Chief Guest on the occasion was  HB Srivastava, Director General (DG), Technology Management, System Analysis and Modelling, DRDO. Around 500 students, faculty and staff have participated in the event. Student and faculty members from PTU Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur campuses has also joined the celebration.

The event began with a welcome address by Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar. He talked about the importance of cultivating culture of innovation and collaboration among the scientific community. He emphasized importance of indigenous technology so as our nation become Atmanirbar. He said that IIT Ropar is significantly contributing to our country’s development with its technological innovations and expertise in various fields.

HB Srivastava ,while giving presentation on Defence Research- Challenges and Opportunities, shared the Thrust areas of Defence R&D where young and budding scientists can contribute for making indigenous products, like weapon systems, space, robotics, Cyber Security, Materials and Devices, Artificial Intelligence to name a few.

Divulging more, he added that DRDO envisaged to involve more industry and academic partners for applied research in advanced technologies for defence. He urged students to devote their energy and time to learning next-generation technology related to, design, development and products of indigenous weapon systems using artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, thereby paving the way for Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

During the expert talks from the eminent personalities from the Industry, Dr. Jitendra Sharma, MD & CEO, AMTZ(Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone) briefed about, how the recent COVID-19 pandemic has provided a compelling opportunity for R&D institutions, academia and industry to work in unison for sharing of purpose, synergy, collaboration and cooperation. Dr. Kartik Kumar, Deputy Director (R&D), Saint Gobain shared his thoughts on empowering science and technology for the socio-economic upliftment of our State and Nation. Mr. Abhishek Goel, Vice President Global Practice Head, Infosys talked about cyber security, Internet of thing (IoT) and cloud computing.
