The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is launching a new B.Tech.program in Engineering Physics from this academic year 2022-23. This four year B.Tech. in Engineering Physics is jointly offered by the Department of Physics and the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Ropar, with its emphasis on learning to solve problems, provides an excellent blend of Electrical Engineering knowledge with deep Physics for graduate studies in Physics and related fields. It is a great foundation for careers in research, semiconductor industries, photonics, solar industries, finance, quantum computing and technology management. The program is designed to bridge up the gap between the Physics and Engineering, and is inclined towards semiconductor technology.

Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Head of the Department of Physics added that, “In addition to the basic degree, the students would be able to take concentration program in either Physics or Electrical Engineering. They would be also able to take minor courses from the Department other than Physics and Electrical Engineering. The students after completing the program would be trained enough to work in Semiconductor Industries, Finance, and technology based research and industries in India as well abroad. The program aims for highly motivated students with high JEE ranking.”

Divulging more, Professor Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar added that, “This UG program is highly suitable for any student planning to pursue graduate school with high tech industry focus, and research beyond IIT Ropar. Highly motivated students are encouraged to join the program. The program is designed to offer Electrical Engineering knowledge with deep Physics to all those, who are inclined towards semiconductor technology and India’s new Semiconductor Mission. The students after completing the program would be trained enough to work in Semiconductor Industry, Finance, other technology based research etc. in India as well abroad.”

IIT Ropar launches new B.Tech programme in engineering Physics. The 21st century belongs to interdisciplinary areas and Engineering Physics will act as catalyst to bridge the gap between basic science and traditional Engineering disciplines to tackle the next generation technological challenges such Quantum technology, Artificial Intelligence, he added.
