IIT Ropar made low cost stubble removal machine; Sarbat Da Bhalla trust will donate them to farmers

As, IIT Ropar responded to the problem of stubble burning by making a Low-cost Stubble Removal Machine, World’s renowned Philanthropist S.P.S Oberoi, Managing Director, Sarbat Da Bhala Trust, initiated of donating 15 such machines to the local farmers made by IIT Ropar.

The machine  can be mounted on a tractor trolley can  chop the stubble up to a few centimeters from the ground and  automatically load it into the trolley without any manpower saving labour and cutting down extra spending on diesel,  which are the two main concerns being raised by the state farmers. The stubble collected can be used to make fertilizer, burn in boiler to generate electricity or create acoustic/Ply boards.

Speaking on this occasion, S.P.S Oberoi stated that, “We as an NGO supports the approach of IIT Ropar which in the pursuit of a solution has brought a novel machine that can bring revolution in curbing this pollution and eventually stop Stubble burning.”

Prof. Harpreet Singh, Dean ICSR&II said, “We are thankful to such NGOs and societies that are helping the farmers’ transition to a better, more sustainable cultivation and   sustainably dispose paddy straw via such low cost technological solution. We are also looking forward for industries for transferring this solution to commercial scale.”

Dr. Prabir Sarkar, Principal Investigator of this Project also applauded the vision of Oberoi and assured that such baby steps will contribute to address significantly to the national capital’s air pollution woes, combating severe consequences for public health.”

During the meeting with the Director, IIT Ropar, J.K.Jaggi, District Head, Sarbat Da Bhala Trust was also present.
