IIT Ropar -MIT USA on Research collaboration in Food and Water Research

IIT Ropar inked agreement with the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to establish the MIT-IIT Ropar Research Collaboration. The agreement was signed between Professor S. K.Das, Director, IIT Ropar and Prof. John H. Lienhard V, Director, J-WAFS.
The agreement will support seed fund grants for early-stage collaborative research projects on topics primarily related to water, food, and/or agriculture, between faculty and research scientists at MIT and IIT Ropar. Under this agreement an annual call for proposals open to all MIT faculty, principal research scientists and senior research scientists. Faculty and research scientist at IIT Ropar will be co-applicants on proposal applications.
Divulging more, Prof. S.K. Das said, “Punjab is an agrarian state and is a water-stressed state too, so being an institute of national importance, we are already working on several research projects related to water resources, water logging, deteriorating water quality, floods, droughts, changing rainfall patterns accentuated by impending climate change and food quality. This agreement with MIT will definitely accelerate our commitment to societal development and to address global challenges at various levels.”
The intended outcome also includes two-way students’ mobility from IIT Ropar to the MIT and vice-versa. The Director, IIT Ropar had visited the US last week for forging linkages and collaborations with MIT.
