IIT Ropar to “nurture support systems” through Council of Local Associates

The First Meeting of the Council   of Local Associates (CoLA) of IIT Ropar convened in IIT Ropar by Dr. R.S. Parmar as being the convener and Inderpal Singh Chadda as the Secretary. The meeting  under the  Patronage of Prof. Sarit K Das, Director, IIT Ropar, Sumeet Jarangal, Deputy Commissioner, Ropar turned very successful.

The Director, IIT Ropar, Prof. Sarit K Das briefly gave the introduction of the success story of IIT Ropar and its ten years of developments in terms of infrastructure, research and social impact.  He discussed the strengthening of relations with society partners and the widening of its outreach to Industry and Academic partners. He underlined the importance of effective multilateralism and concerted action in confronting the wide range of challenges facing the Community.

In this regard, he highlighted IIT Ropar’s success in bringing global attention to issues of regional concern such as Stubble Burning, Waste management, Drug Addiction, and How IIT Ropar is working to curb the above mentioned problems.

Recognizing the support of Local associates, this council comprises of the top Industries in the vicinity, naming few are SML ISUZU, DSM Sinochem Pharmaceuticals Ltd., DCM, Ambuja Cements, Cheema Boilers.   The industry representatives urged IIT Ropar to continue to strengthen its coordination with them to realize further success for the benefit of the Community.

The Director, IIT Ropar reviewed its relations with its academic partners, NIELIT Ropar, IET Bhaddal, Rayat-Bahra Group of Institutions and Doaba Group of Institutions and discussed ways and means of consolidating with them.

The Council has members from all major offices, pertaining to education, water supply, Electricity, Forest, Municipal Corporation, telecommunication, Agro development. The Convenor, Dr. R.S.Parmar proposed to frame a policy and areas of mutual interest and proposed the widening of mechanisms for dialogue for the Council’s continued engagement with IIT Ropar. In so doing, he recognized the need to taking pro-active approach towards sorting various issues of the District with technological inputs from IIT Ropar.

The Council was updated on the efforts underway to light the approach road of IIT Ropar by the Deputy Commissioner, Ropar, Sumeet Jarangal. He reaffirmed the importance of regular engagement with IIT Ropar on matters of mutual interest.

In this regard, he welcomed the high-level engagement in between the District administration and IIT Ropar’s administration at which they can discuss issues of priority concern to the Community, including the situation of beautification of the City Ropar.

The council took note of IIT Ropar’s new development assistance priorities which spoke to several areas of concern to the Region. Industry associates also welcomed the invitation extended to the members to participate in the upcoming events of IIT Ropar as BAJA SAE INDIA, An automotive competition is going to be held during 7th-11th March and MEDTECH – A four day workshop on medical device innovation is also during 7th-10th March.
