Illegal Mining- NCM seeks report from Chief Secretary, Punjab

National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has demanded a detailed report from chief secretary Punjab about the illegal mining in Village Bhallan under district Rupnagar.

A resident of village Bhallan, Subedar Kalyan Singh highlighted the illegal mining in the village to the National Commission for Minorities.

Taking cognizance, the officials of the National Commission for Minorities seeks report from Chief Secretary, Punjab within one month i.e by December 15,2022.

As per insiders, the illegal mining in Rupnagar and registration of case against the members of Ilaqa Sangharsh Committee has now taken a political colour as the commission chairman and BJP leader Iqbal Singh Lalpura has political interest in Rupnagar and he is siding the Ilaqa Sangharsh Committee members.

Illegal Mining- NCM seeks report from Chief Secretary, Punjab. It all started when the Rupnagar police registered an extortion case against six members of the Ilaqa Sangharsh Committee, last week. Stone crusher owner Dalbir Singh had alleged that some committee members had extorted more than Rs 2 crore from stone crusher owners.

The residents, had formed an Ilaqa Sangharsh Committee last year to oppose illegal mining in the area. Now again the Ilaqa Sangharsh Committee members are protesting against desilting of the Swan river-bed by the state government near Bhallan village a few days ago.  The villagers alleged the mining mafia had plundered the sand and gravel by digging the riverbed. This not only results in a huge loss to the state exchequer, but the land adjoining the riverbed also turns barren.

Earlier also National Commission for Minorities Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura had taken cognizance of a complaint received regarding illegal mining in the Ropar District in Punjab in January, 2022. At that time also he had seek report from the than Chief Secretary in this regard.
