IMA Punjab comes in support of Rajasthan doctors; denounces the passing of Right to Health bill by Rajasthan government
Kanwar Inder Singh/ March 27,2023
Punjab state IMA condemns the passing of draconian right to health bill in state legislative assembly by ruling Rajasthan government
This bill will lead to closure of all small and big private hospitals in the state of Rajasthan.
By this bill the state government wants that every private hospital is duty bound to treat all the emergency patients free of cost which will cripple the already financially overburdened private medical sector, but the bill is silent on defining the emergency and its reimbursement from the state.
This bill will also cause more strains in already fragile patient – doctor relationship leading to increased incidences of violence against doctors due to discrepancies in services and its payments. The present Rajasthan government has failed to improve its own infrastructure and health services in last 5 years and now wants to shun its responsibilities by shifting that deficient emergency services on private sector health care facilities (HCFs).
This autocratic attitude of government in undemocratic way will lead to collapse of private health care facilities due to economic constraints.
By this populist decision, the government wants to cover up its failures in delivering better health care services in government run hospitals of state – which are ill equipped , unhygienic , deficient in Human Resources and poorly maintained due to paucity of funds and lack of vision of political masters.
On the day of discussion of bill in the assembly; while the doctors were peacefully protesting at Statue Square in Jaipur , the state forces unprovoked attacked them with lathis and water canons and brutally manhandled the law abiding doctors and dint even spare the female colleagues . This is highly condemnable act of state oppression on democratic rights of its highly educated and law abiding class of citizens.
IMA Punjab President Dr Bhagwant Singh condemned this attempt of Rajasthan government which is an indirect method of taking over the administrative and financial control of private hospitals and clinics leading to crippling of the biggest health sector providing services to the patient.
IMA Punjab came in support of Rajasthan doctors; denounces the passing of Right to Health bill by Rajasthan government. He further warned the Rajasthan government that if this totally autocratic and undemocratic decision is not ruled back soon; IMA India will be compelled to take some harsh decisions . This bill should be scrapped immediately for the betterment of humanity and nation on the whole.
