PSPCL has geared up to provide 8 hours power supply to AP consumers and regular supply to various categories including Industry in the forthcoming summer and paddy season. This was disclosed by spokesman of PSPCL in a press note issued here today.
Spokesman informed that Punjab being an agrarian state has a load profile such that demand of the state during peak summer/paddy season comes to an all-time high due to increase in demand of all category of consumers including agriculture sector.
Spokesman informed that these days early onset of sultry weather due to sudden increase in temperature requiring air conditioning by general consumers coupled with increase in agriculture load due to requirement of watering to wheat crop has resulted in a peak demand of power around 8650 MW whereas the same around this time last year in 2021 was 7000 MW.Spokesman said that during the last summer season, corporation had catered the maximum demand of 13148 MW.
Spokesman said that it is anticipated the peak demand during the forthcoming paddy season would be 15000/15500 MW for which PSPCL has made various arrangements by optimal use of its all resources.
Spokesman said that PSPCL has been exporting 900/1000 MW power during this winter to other states for banking of power with Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Meghalaya, etc. such that in return it shall import 2000-2500 MW during peak paddy season for the months of June to September 2022.
Spokesman also said that PSPCL has also made power purchase arrangements of around 500 MW on short term basis from June to September-2022 through DEEP portal, hosted by Ministry of Power, GoI. Arrangements for short term power of around 1000 MW more are being made. Further Power would be procured from Power Exchange on day to day basis as it has been experienced that whenever it rains, power demand plummets so to optimise cost of power this short term power cushion has been kept.
Spokesman added that as per recent developments PSLDC/PSTCL has informed ATC limit is being raised to8500/9000 MW in comparison to 7400 MW last year. PSPCL is already on advance stage of booking of transmission corridors for paddy season.
Spokesman further added that sufficient arrangements of coal required for planned generation are being made to ensure smooth working of Thermal Plants. PSPCL own coal mine at Pachhwara is being operationalized and coal from the same would be received in May 2022.
Spokesman also added that with around 6500 MW generation within the state (1000 MW from own Hydro, 1580 MW from own Thermals, 3200 MW from IPPs and 720 MW from solar and biomass plants) and 4000 MW share of state in Centre Sector and BBMB plants, 2500 MW banking arrangements, 1500 MW of short term power arrangements and 1000 MW from power exchange PSPCL is in position to meet 15500 MW of demand.
