In Patiala, one candidate withdraws nomination; 26 candidates in fray for royal city Lok Sabha seat

After an independent candidate withdrew his nomination papers from Patiala for the Lok Sabha elections, a total of 26 candidates remain in the fray. District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer, Patiala, Showkat Ahmad Parray today allotted election symbols to independent candidates. He stated that independent candidate Bahadur Singh has withdrawn his candidature.
The Deputy Commissioner confirmed that there are now 26 candidates contesting the election. Due to the presence of more than 16 candidates, each of the 1,786 polling booths will have an additional ballot unit with the EVMs. The first supplemental randomization of these additional ballot units (BUs) was conducted today in the presence of the candidates and their representatives. The list of serial numbers of these BUs has been handed over to all the candidates. Election Tehsildar Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and the candidates or their representatives were also present during this process.
Showkat Ahmad Parray mentioned the names of the candidates from recognized national and state political parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections to be held on June 1, 2024. The candidates include, Jagjit Singh of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Dharamvira Gandhi of the Indian National Congress, Narinder Kumar Sharma of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Preneet Kaur of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Balbir Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party.
Candidates from registered Political Parties (other than recognised National and state Political Parties) include, Amarjit Singh of Jan Janwadi Party, Krishan Kumar of Hindustan Shakti Sena, Davinder Rajput of Bharatiya Jawan Kisan Party, Mohindr pal Singh of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) (Simranjit Singh Mann), Mandeep Singh of Revolutionary Socialist Party and Ranjit Singh of Akhil Bharati Parivar Party.

The independent candidates include, Arvinder Kumar, Sukhwinder Singh, Gurbachan Singh, Chamkila Singh, Jagdish Kumar, Jodh Singh Parmar, Dimple, Neeraj Kumar, Paramjit Singh, Paramjit Singh (another candidate with the same name), Binder Kaur, Manoj Kumar, Makhan Singh, Labh Singh, and Vishal Sharma.
