Indian States, UTs fails to respond to MHA orders; ministry issued third reminder to all the concerned officers

After the merging of the existing “President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service”, “President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service”, “President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service” and “President’s Correctional Service Medal for Distinguished Service”, instituted by President’s Secretariat and instituting a new medal “President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, the ministry of home affairs (MHA) has sought for the first time the recommendations from the concerned departments, states for the award of President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) on the occasion of Republic Day- 2024.
Also, the existing “Police Medal for Meritorious Service”, “Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service”, “Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service” and “Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service” instituted by President’s Secretariat are merged with immediate effect to institute a new medal “Medal for Meritorious Service”.
But, to an utter surprise to the MHA, the concerned states, UTs, other departments fails to submit the recommendations for the awards of PSM/MSM for the occasion of Republic Day, in time. Now once again the ministry has extended the date till 6th December, 2023”
On October 17,2023 the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has merged the medals and sought the list, recommendation from all the Chief Secretaries, all the Home Secretaries of all the states, UTS, all the DsGP , all the Directors IB/CBI/SVPNPA/SPG/NEPA/ NCRB, DsG of BSF/ CRPF/ ITBP/ CISF/ NSG/ NIA/ RPF/ BPR&D /SSB/ NCB/NDRF/NHRC/Assam Rifles, the Secretary, R&AW, Secretary, Commission for SCs/STs, Secretary, Lok Sabha /Rajya Sabha ,all Ministries/Departments of Government of India (except Ministry of Defence) to send recommendation for the award of President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) on the occasion of Republic Day- 2024.
Again, on 17 October, 2023 and 17 November, 2023 the ministry issued reminder to all the above mentioned officers, departments vide which recommendations for the awards of President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) for the occasion of Republic Day- 2024 have been called for with request to submit nomination/recommendation by 17 November, 2023. Subsequently, the last date for submission of nomination for the said awards has been extended upto 30th November, 2023. Even after the lapse to two reminders, various States/UTs/Organizations have not yet submitted their recommendation/ nomination on due date.
Indian States, UTs fails to respond to MHA orders; ministry issued third reminder to all the concerned officers. As, today is the last date of third reminder, MHA authorities must be keeping their fingers crossed and expecting to get the required recommendations from the states, UTs, departments.
