Inter-Department Cricket Tournament Successfully Organized at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, successfully organized a vibrant and inspiring Inter-Department Cricket Tournament from January 28 to 29, 2026, at the Baba Fateh Singh Sports Stadium, with the aim of fostering students’ interest in sports, promoting team spirit, and strengthening a healthy competitive culture on campus.
The tournament was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, and the Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, who encouraged the players to uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, dedication, and harmony both on and off the field. They emphasized that sports not only enhance physical fitness but also play a crucial role in strengthening leadership qualities, responsibility, and holistic personality development.
The two-day tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from 19 teams representing various departments of the University. Each match was played with remarkable energy, discipline, and sportsmanship, offering spectators a thrilling display of talent and teamwork. On this occasion, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Tejbir Singh, Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Sikandar Singh, and Dean Alumni, Dr. Sarpreet Singh also graced the event, motivating the students and encouraging them to strive for excellence in the field of sports.
Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology, Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar, warmly welcomed all distinguished guests and expressed gratitude to the faculty, staff, and students for ensuring the successful conduct of the tournament.
As per the final results, the Department of Physical Education secured the First Position, the Department of Computer Science stood Second, and the Department of Law achieved the Third Position. In individual categories, Jaganpreet Singh (Computer Science) was awarded Best Player, Virat Meena (Physical Education) received the Best Bowler award, and Amritpal Singh was honored with the title of Man of the Series. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winning teams and outstanding performers were felicitated with trophies and certificates.
This tournament stands as a memorable chapter in the University’s sports calendar, reaffirming that Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University is committed not only to academic excellence but also to nurturing sporting talent and advancing the holistic development of its students.
