January 19 may bring new twist in Punjab elections

January 19, 2022 may bring a new twist in the Punjab politics, as Justice Ranjit Singh is going to launch the book “The Sacrilege”, on the incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji that took place in Faridkot district in 2015.

At a time when the heat is on in Punjab after the announcement of Punjab elections, the launch of a book “The Sacrilege “may add fuel in the elections.

Justice Ranjit Singh, who authored the book, is chairman of the inquiry commission appointed by the former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to inquire about the sacrileges incident.

Since 2017, when the last elections were held, immoral incidents of sacrilege had kept the state on the boil even now. Aam admi Party, Punjab Pradesh congress committee chief Navjot Singh Sidhu are already raising question over the state government inefficiency in dealing with the sacrilege cases investigation.

The commission carried out the investigation without bias and submitted its report.

As per the summary of the book, written by Justice Ranjit Singh “for the first time he has brought out the complete truth in the public domain through this book. This book presents the results of the investigation sparing none including powerful politicians and is an eye-opener with startling revelations presented with facts. It is written in lucid and simple language unfolding the tragedy of events that occurred”

As per reports, ‘highly confidential’ official document, Justice Ranjit Singh (retd) Commission report on the sacrilege cases had been leaked even before the Punjab government could table it in the assembly session, in 2018, embarrass the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government.

Justice Ranjit Singh was born on April 5, 1951, and hails from Chananke village in Amritsar. He did his schooling from SSSS Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Amritsar. He pursued graduation from Khalsa College, Amritsar and completed degree in law from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He joined the JAG Department of the Indian Army and rose to the rank of Major. Later he took voluntary retirement from the Indian Army and started practising at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was then elevated as Judge of the High Court and remained the HC Judge from March 22, 2006 till April 4, 2013. After that he was appointed as Chairman of Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal, Delhi, post his retirement.
