KHALSA AID reaches out to flood victims in Kerala

Kerala, god’s own country is known amongst the international tourists for its tropical hills and beaches. It has been beaten by record monsoon rainfall this year. Pressure intensified on Saturday to save thousands still trapped by devastating floods that have killed more than 300 triggering landslides and sending torrents sweeping through villages in the region’s worst flood crisis in a century. Roads are damaged, mobile phone networks are down, an international airport has been closed and more than 3.5 lakh people have been left homeless after strangely heavy rain in the past nine days.
Khalsa Aid team has reached Ernakulum district in Kerala. Presently the have set up a community kitchen in liason with the local Gurudwara there. We are providing hot cooked meals three times a day to the affected victims. Around 3000 people are eating from the langar service. We are going to send in another team by Sunday night to strengthen the efforts and heighten the scale of the mission.
Khalsa Aid will be distributing an essential items kit containing all the required toiletries and sanitary pads, mosquito nets, tarpaulin sheets, rice and dal. Presently four volunteers are there along with 8 local volunteers assisting the affected populations.
Khalsa Aid is conducting fund raisers for kerala in all the major cities of India in the coming days as well.
