While, the sudden death of late Captain Kanwaljit Singh changed the political situation and his son Jasjit Singh Banni’s announcement of separation from the party changed the political scenario. He was made in-charge of Banur Vidhan Sabha constituency on the instructions of Akali Dal leader convener Late Prakash Singh Badal and party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who are known as close friends of Narinder Sharma. During the subsequent assembly elections, the party, who emerged as a candidate for the assembly from Banur constituency, decided to give this ticket to Jasjit Singh Banni, the son of Captain Kanwaljit Singh, who rejoined the party. Even in adverse circumstances, NK Sharma showed loyalty to the leadership of the party during the elections. Narinder Sharma strongly supported the Akali-BJP candidate Jasjit Singh Banni and played an important role in winning him with a huge margin.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal named him the Chairman of District Planning Board Mohali, emphasizing Narinder Sharma’s hard work and dedication to the party.

Seeing the loyalty to the party and the spirit of service to the people, the Shiromani Akali Dal announced NK Sharma as its candidate from the Derabassi constituency during the assembly elections held in the year 2012. Sharma defeated Deepinder Singh Dhillon of Congress by a margin of more than 12 thousand votes.

After this, NK Sharma was given the responsibility as Parliamentary Secretary (Industries and Commerce Department) in the Akali-BJP government formed under the leadership of late  Prakash Singh Badal. After this, NK Sharma defeated Deepinder Singh Dhillon of Congress for the second consecutive time in the Vidhan Sabha elections held during the year 2017.
