Lakha Sidhana cousin gave statement before Patiala police in torture by Delhi police case

In a statement before a team of police officials of PS Urban Estate, Patiala, on 12.04.2021, Gurdeep Singh @ Mundi, cousin of Lakha Sidhana, has made allegations of physical torture and abduction on the part of Special Cell of Delhi Police while he was on his way to Punjabi University, Patiala on 08.04.2021, with his friend, Gurpreet Singh. Gurdeep has also stated that they were presented before a Senior Police Officer of Delhi Police Special Cell before being let off on 9th April. Gurdeep got admitted to the Civil Hospital, Bathinda on 10.04.2021.

Delhi Police, in its Press Note dated 12.04.2021, has accepted that one Gurdeep Singh @ Mundi, a cousin of Lakha Sidhana was examined by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police in connection with FIR 28/2021 of PS Special Cell. The PRO of Delhi Police has further stated in the abovementioned Press Note that Gurdeep @ Mundi was asked about the presence and movements of Lakha Sidhana and thereafter he was relieved with the direction to appear and to again join investigation as and when required. The allegations pertaining to illegal abduction and physical assault have also been strongly denied as being false, baseless and an afterthought to put pressure on the investigating teams, by the Delhi Police. Delhi Police has also stated that the above investigation was being conducted as per law and in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Lakha Sidhana cousin gave statement before Patiala police in torture by Delhi police case. As per the Press Note, “On April 8, 2021, a team of Special Cell of Delhi Police which was moving in the vicinity of Patiala in search of accused Lakha Sidhana in connection with FIR 28/2021 of PS Special Cell, examined one Gurdeep Singh @ Mundi, a cousin of Lakha Sidhana. Gurdeep @ Mundi was asked about the presence and movements of Lakha Sidhana and thereafter he was relieved with the direction to appear and to again join investigation as and when required. The investigation is being conducted as per law and in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code. It is relevant to note that no allegation of assault or mistreatment has been made by any of the 160 accused persons arrested by Delhi Police in these cases so far. The allegations pertaining to illegal abduction and physical assault are strongly denied as being false, baseless and an afterthought to put pressure on the investigating teams.”

Bathinda Police came to know about the alleged picking up of Gurdeep Singh from the authorities of Civil Hospital, Bathinda as well as media reports on 10.04.2021, and his statement was recorded thereafter. Earlier, the Punjab Police was not aware of the alleged incident. The aforementioned statement of the petitioner Gurdeep Singh, along with its translated version (English) and the Medico Legal Report as sent by the concerned medical authorities are being shared with DCP Special Cell, Delhi Police, for necessary action at their end.
