Languages Deptt- NTAS observed the Intl Pbi Theatre Day

PatialaThe department of Punjab Languages and National Theatre Arts Society (NTAS) Patiala celebrated International Punjabi Theatre Day as Norah-Nanda Theatre & Felicitation Festival at Bhasha Bhavan, here. The Chief guest noted Punjabi scholar Satnam Singh, Deputy director department of Languages, Satnam Singh Assistant director of the department, NTAS Sr. Vice President P.C. Tiwari retired joint secretary PSEB and festival convener duo Pran Sabharwal-Sunita Sabharwal inaugurated the festival by paying floral tributes at Ajit Arts prepared beautiful portraits of mother of Punjabi drama Norah Richards, her disciple Prof. I.C. Nanda, who founded Modern Punjabi Theatre Movement on 6th April 1914 at Dayal Singh College Lahore.

Tejinder Singh Gill, M.S. Jaggi, Sunita Sabharwal spoke about life, achievements of Norah and Nanda and history of Punjabi theatre movement. The high light of the programme was conferring of International Punjabi Theatre Day Norah-Nanda award of honour, memento, shawl, bouquets and gifts on eminent-Theatre-TV-Film personality “Yog Raj Sedha”, maker of First National Award winning Punjabi feature film “Chann Pardesi” and Internationally acclaimed Hindi feature film “Waaris” and NTAS’ young artist Kumar Gaurav, maker of Punjabi Telefilm “Bikharde Jazbaat” for their exemplary dedication and outstanding services towards Punjabi language, drama T.V and films.

NTAS director Pran Sabharwal lauded Gursharan Kaur director Punjab languages department and M.P. Dharamvir Gandhi, who had gifted Rs. 22 lakh to the department for constructing Bhasha Bhawan Open-Air-Theatre for their efforts and keen interest in Punajbi Theatre movement. NTAS director Pran Sabharwal disclosed that NTAS had celebrated Golden Jubilee of the Norah-Nanda Theatre movement in 1964 at the instance of dramatist G.S. Khosla. Sabharwal introduced participating artists especially Sweety Rajput and Yuvraj Dhaliwal for their best attendance and acting. Earlier, newly appointed Principal D.A.V. Public School Vivek Tiwari conveyed his greetings and blessings from Padamshri Punam Suri, President D.A.V. College Management Committee, Delhi to organisers & artists.
