As per beliefs, Lord Rama has family, spiritual connection with Punjab. As per historians, there are many places in Punjab which have connections with Lord Ram.

The holy city of Amritsar, royal city Patiala and a small town Kharar, near city beautiful has connection with Lord Rama . There is a belief that Lord Ram’s grandfather, mother, himself, sons, wife has deep connection with Punjab.

As per historians, Amritsar has an important family connection with Lord Rama as Mata Sita and her two sons Luv-Kush lived in Amritsar after they were separated from Lord Rama.

There is a hut in the ‘Ram Tirath Temple’, Amritsar and it is said that here Mata Sita gave birth to Luv and Kush. Also there is a well with stairs where it is believed that Mata Sita used to bathe. Luv and Kush have spent their childhood there in Amritsar.

After Lord Rama abandoned Mata Sita, she was given shelter by Maharishi Valmiki . Ram Tirath Temple, Amritsar was once the ashrama of Saint Valmiki and he only made Luv and Kush proficient in all fields through his training. Also it is believed that this was the place where Valmiki ji wrote many of his sacred manuscripts.

Hence this temple has a long history and is also mentioned in the sacred books of Hindu’s, The Ramayana. Even a fair is organized at Ram Tirath Temple annually, which continues for 5 days. It is generally held after Diwali.

Likewise, the village ‘Gharram’ on Pehowa Road, about 18-20 kilometers from Patiala,is known as ‘Kaushalyapuram’ as it is the maternal village of Lord Ram (birthplace of his mother Kaushalya).

Residents of the Gharram believe that it has a close association with Lord Rama as  numerous books mention that Raja Dashrath’s (Lord Rama’s father) wedding procession passed through Gharram, where he married the Maharaja’s daughter, Kaushalya, and Rama was born in his maternal grandfather’s (Nana) Maharaja Khoh Ram palace located in the village, rather than in Ayodhya.

One such publication, titled Patiala and its Historical Surroundings, published by Punjabi University, Patiala in 1969, claims that “Patiala can lay some claim to Lord Rama.”

However, historians have not been able to establish that link, even as they believe that the village is of great historical importance and closely linked to ancient history.

Another place associated with Lord Rama in Punjab is in Kharar, there is ‘Ajj Sarovar’, which is named after Maharaja Aja, the grandfather of Lord Ram. Along with this, there is also a historical temple, Chinta Haran Temple. Ajj Sarovar is built along with this temple. It is popular about this temple and lake that this temple and lake were built by the ancient king of India Maharaj Aja , who was the grandfather of Lord Rama.
