As there is no sign of relief from bone chilling cold days, dense fog, Indian Metrological Department (IMD) has once again issued a Red alert with dense fog warning, cold day conditions likely to occur at most places in Punjab till January 22,2024 and orange alert from January 23 to 25,2024. The alert warns of dense to very dense fog conditions that are likely to continue for the next five days.

State disaster management authority (SDMA), Punjab has advised to “follow precautions for prevention from cold wave, stay indoors as much as possible, minimise travel during Fog, prevent exposure to cold wind, and have adequate winter clothing.”

Punjab is grappling with the problem of low visibility due to dense fog, especially in the morning and night hours which has affected the vehicular movement,  led to the delay of several flights and trains.

As per IMD predictions “no large change in minimum temperatures during next 4-5 days in the state and dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh till January 26 morning”
