LPU barred from admitting students in selected stream after withdrawal of recognition granted by GoI’s council

One of India’s renowned university, Lovely Professional University gets a major jolt as the National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) has withdrawn the recognition granted them to admit students in M. Ed (Part Time) course.

NCTE had given approval to LPU to admit 25 students for M.Ed. (Part Time) course through distance education vide order number F.NRC/NCTE/F-7/PB-495/2009/3070-3076 dated 29.05.2009.

As per available information “the institution has not submitted their Performance Appraisal Report (PAR) for the academic session(s) 2021-22 and 2022-23. The matter was considered by the Northern Regional Committee (NRC) of NCTE in its meeting no 437 and as per decision taken by the Regional Committee, show cause notice to provide reasonable opportunity to submit written representation before withdrawal of the above recognition/permission under section 17 of NCTE Act, 1993 on the ground of Non-submission of the PAR for the academic session 2021-22 and 2022-23 was issued by NRC to the institution through online mode on 02.04.2025, a copy of the same was also sent through speed post.

After the issuance of show cause notice, LPU submitted its reply. But the authorities rejected the justification/reply given by the institution against show cause notice for non-submission of PAR.

After that the matter was considered by the Northern Regional Committee of NCTE in its meeting no. 441st Meeting held on 22.05.2025 and the committee decided that the recognition/permission granted to Department of Education, Lovely Professional University, as referred above be withdrawn under Section 17 of NCTE Act, 1993

As per Regional Director, Northern Regional Committee, National Council for Teacher Education, New Delhi orders dated June 7,2025  “In exercise of the powers vested under Section 17 of NCTE Act, 1993, the Northern Regional Committee of National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) ((A Statutory Body of the Government of India) hereby withdraws the recognition for the M.Ed. (Part Time) Course granted to Department of Education, Lovely Professional University, as referred in the para-1 with effect from the academic session 2025-2026 on the ground/reasons given in the para-7 of this order. The institution is not entitled to admit students in the above referred programmes from the academic session 2025-2026. The students admitted up to the academic session 2024-2025 shall complete their programme”.

NCTE further added in its order that “If the institution is not satisfied with this order, it may prefer an appeal under section 18 of the NCTE Act, 1993 through online mode available on NCTE website within 60 days from the date of issue of this order.”

When contacted Archana of LPU she said ” please contact LPU Online wing ,as she is in the administrative wing of LPU main campus and deals with the main campus only and online has different staff, faculty”. When called the LPU Online wing contact numbers the counselor said ” i’ll ask my seniors and they will contact you within few minutes. But nobody from the LPU Online wing called up. When again contacted, the counselor said “please come to LPU, Online wing and meet the higher authorities to get your queries answered.  ”

On the other hand LPU announces its admission open through Distance Education in Postgraduate (MBA, MCA, M.Sc. IT, M.Com., M.A. and MLIS) along with other under graduate, diploma courses.
