In a step towards transforming Malerkotla into a smart and secure town, the district police on Friday inaugurated an advanced wireless surveillance system and a new gymnasium for its personnel.
The wireless closed-circuit television (CCTV) network with high-definition cameras, facial recognition and automatic number plate reading capabilities was unveiled by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Patiala Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar. It aims to strengthen law and order through real-time monitoring and rapid response.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Patiala Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar underscored the importance of leveraging technology for effective policing. “This system will act as a force multiplier, aiding crime prevention and enabling swift response to incidents,” he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Malerkotla Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the surveillance infrastructure would enhance the sense of security among citizens and streamline investigations by integrating data from various sources.
Simultaneously, a modern gymnasium was inaugurated within the police premises to promote physical fitness among personnel, a key aspect of combat readiness and public service delivery.
“With cutting-edge surveillance and better facilities for our personnel, we are better positioned to tackle emerging challenges and ensure citizens’ safety,” SSP Malerkotla HPS Khakh remarked.
The CCTV command centre will employ video analytics and data processing tools to map crime patterns, identify suspects and coordinate field operations. Officials believe the all-encompassing coverage will deter street crimes like snatching, eve-teasing and drug peddling.
