Malerkotla Police organises cyclothon to create awareness about ill effects of drugs

In alignment with the vision of the Punjab Government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and under the leadership of DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav IPS, the Malerkotla Police organized a mass cycle rally today as a part of its anti-drug campaign, “Say No To Drugs, Yes to Life,” aiming to raise awareness about the ill-effects of drugs and encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle.
The cycle rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 500 people of all age groups, who gathered early in the morning at the starting point of Dr. Zakir Hussain Stadium, Malerkotla.
The rally was ceremonially flagged off by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malerkotla,. Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, along with Chief Guest, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Malerkotla Dr. Palvi. They both also cycled for a short distance to motivate the participants.
The 30-km route of the rally passed through Batta Chonk, Kelon Gate, Raikot Bridge, Manan Gate, Badi Eidgah, 786 Chonk, Ludhiana Bypass, Sarod Chonk, Jarg Chonk, Grewal Chonk, Truck Union, before returning to culminate at Zakir Hussain Stadium.
Apart from the general public, Malerkotla police personnel including SP Headquarters Swaranjeet Kaur, SP Detectives Jagdish Bishnoi, DSP Sub-division Malerkotla Kuldeep Singh, DSP Sub-division Ahmedgarh Davinder Singh Sandhu, DSP Sub-division Amargarh Jatin Bansal, DSP Special Branch Paramjit Singh Bains, DSP Narcotics Parvir Saini, and SHOs of City-1 Yadwinder Singh, City-2 Sahib Singh and Amargarh Inderjeet Singh also pedalled with the rallyists.
Interacting with media persons, SSP Khakh expressed his gratitude to all participants and stressed the need for such initiatives to raise awareness against drug abuse. He informed that the police have identified 161 drug addicts in the district who need immediate care and rehabilitation. Each addict will be assigned a policeman who will visit them weekly for counselling sessions. The frequency will be reduced to fortnightly after a month. They will also be admitted to de-addiction facilities if required.
The SSP shared his personal mobile number requesting people to share information about drug activities confidentially. “Efforts are on to catch the big fish supplying drugs in the district,” he added.
SSP Khakh emphasised that the purpose of this rally was to spread awareness so that Malerkotla becomes a drug-free city. “If anybody needs rehabilitation, they can contact us and we will ensure they get the needed treatment,” he stated.
In her address, DC Palvi applauded the efforts of Malerkotla Police and advised youth and parents to proactively keep children engaged in sports and constructive activities to stay away from drugs.
