Mayor removal issue brought Brahm Mohindra face to face with Moti Mahal in Patiala

Today municipal councilors of Patiala (urban) and Patiala (rural) gave notice to Mayor Patiala Sanjeev Sharma Bittu to prove his majority in the house or resign from the post.

The councilors are demanding the removal of Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu from the post as they are alleging that he has joined former chief minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh’s group, not listening to them, not working properly etc.etc. Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu is a close confidant of Preneet kaur, wife of capt Amarinder Singh

The sudden development came today when a group of councilors submitted a written letter signed by municipal councilors to the mayor with copy to commissioner Patiala division, DC Patiala , Commissioner MC Patiala, demanding his resignation or to prove his majority. These councilors led by local bodies minister and MLA Patiala (rural) Brahm Mohindra met Punjab congress incharge Harish Chaudhary at Mohindra’s Chandigarh residence.

Now, as per rules, Mayor Patiala has to call a general house within 14 days after receiving the letter and has to prove his majority. In the general house a voting will take place and to save his Mayorship, Sanjeev Sharma Bittu has to show 21 councilors are with him and to remove him the opposition needs 42 councilors.

Moreover, it’s not a good sign that a senior leader, seasoned politician like Brahm Mohindra is indulging himself in petty politics and Ghanaour MLA Madanlal Jalalpur is going so low and using foul language against his colleague, chief minister. It seems that they are making an ego issue to remove a mayor. They are overlooking the development of the city and the ongoing development works. Now for the next fourteen days, no work will be done as both groups will remain busy to show their strength and ultimately residents of the royal city will suffer in the fight of Brahm Mohindra and Moti Mahal (residence of Capt Amarinder Singh, in Patiala ).”
