Mission Tandarust Punjab: Bathinda Police sensitizing public against drugs-SSP

Bathinda Police is committed to eliminate every possible ways and means by which youngsters are using drugs in our society. Stating this, in a press release issued today SSP Dr. Nanak Singh said that the men in khakhi are geared-up to break nexus between the drugs sellers and buyers in district bordering Haryana.

Sharing the data of two prong approach adopted by Bathinda police in this regard, the SSP stated that apart from cracking the whip upon the hard core repeat offenders they are also organizing roadside ‘Nukkad-Nataks’, seminars and dramas to shake the conscious of drug addicts and sellers.

“We are trying to reach as many people as possible through this direct contact with the masses approach to make them aware of the dangerous consequences of not only consuming drugs but also selling it,” the SSP said. He pointed out that the theme of these dramas portrays a picture wherein the plight of drug addicts and sellers is highlighted.

For the purpose of making the young students aware of the drawbacks and dangerous results of consuming drugs the schools and college students are made aware at a large scale. 215 such dramas, seminars and Nukkad-Nataks’ are organized across the district during the past 5 months, the SSP said.

Also 335 persons–including drug addicts and sellers–are arrested during the same period after registration of 227 cases under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.

The contraband recovered from them include 2.940 kg heroin, 8 gram Smack, 4.200 gram Charas, 665.60 kg Poppy Husk, 16.400 kg Ganja, 55 gram Synthetic Powder, habit forming capsules–40,3820 and 674 habit forming medicine in the form of syrup.

The SSP stated that if anyone comes to know about the sale or consumption of drugs the information must be shared with the nearest police station to help them completely eradicating drugs.
