MLA lodges complaint against decorated bureaucrat; Punjab assembly privilege committee summons IPS officer

Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal, aam aadmi party MLA from Tarn Taran has lodged a complaint with the Punjab assembly privilege committee against the recently transferred senior superintendent of police (SSP), Gurmeet Singh Chuhan, a decorated Punjab police officers.

As per sources, MLA Tarn Taran has lodged a complaint with the Punjab vidhan sabha privilege committee against the misbehavior done by DSP Tarn Taran with the ruling party MLA Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal. The incident dates back July 30,2023 when DSP in a fit of rage asked the MLA to get him transferred after a verbal arguments between the aap party workers and the local police turns ugly. After that SSP Gurmeet Singh Chuhan failed to solve the issue between the MLA and the local police. Later the MLA moved to the privilege committee for breach of privilege.

After this , President Police Medal for Gallantry winner Gurmeet Singh Chuhan was summoned by the committee on October 3,2023. But, the officer requested time due to some reasons. The committee has now summoned Chuhan on October 10,2023.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Privilege Committee is headed by Kulwant Singh Pandori, MLA Mehal Kalan and has 12 members, including the complainant Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal. MLAs Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Amit Rattan Kotfatta, Dr. Charanjit Singh, Narinder Kaur Bharaj, Fauja Singh,Dr. Balbir Singh, Naresh Kataria Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal, Hardev Singh Laddi,  Aruna Chaudhary Dr. Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi are other members of the committee.

Gurmeet Singh Chuhan was recently transferred from Tarn Taran after he arrested MLA Khadoor Sahib, Manjinder Singh Lalpura’s brother-in-law in alleged illegal sand mining case. The next day Chuhan was transferred to Punjab police head quarters at Chandigarh and no posting is given to him.
