Modern School Hoists National Flag on Campus

First private school of Patiala opened by a visionary Mohan Singh in the year 1948, just after India got Independence, Modern Senior Secondary School has become the first private school in Patiala to hoist the National Flag, which will fly permanently until sunset each day on the school campus. The school is also the first co-ed school in the city, founded Mohan Singh, with the objective of imparting education with values, Modern School is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the city.

The flag hoisting ceremony was held today in the presence of senior alumni, students, staff and management, to mark the 70th year of the school. The Alumni Association’s Executive body was present in full strength, with the patron of the Alumni Association and Chairman of PRTC, Punjab, K.K. Sharma unfurling the flag. Other alumni who graced the occasion were Dr. Navin Saronwala, a renowned Eye Surgeon of Patiala, R.P. Bhambri, a senior financial consultant and chartered accountant, and Dr. Ashutosh Narula, Principal, Laxmi Bai Dental College.

The students of the school performed the entire flag hoisting ceremony. Three choreographed rounds of the National Anthem were sung by the school choir and accompanied by students on the tabla, ghatam, guitar, synthesizer, drums and bongo. One of the country’s leading classical violinists, Vidushi Kala Ramnath, who was recently honored with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy award by the President of India, and who is also a member of the Managing Committee of the school, accompanied the students on the violin during the National Anthem.

The Vice President of the Managing Committee, Nanki Singh, made a short speech on the importance of patriotism and giving reverence to the National Flag of India.

The management further disclosed that this institution has been serving this historical city with sincerity and dedication ever since its inception in the year 1948, when Mohan Singh, the Author of Saraswati Vidyak Trust, founded the school with a far reaching vision to serve the cause of education in an innovative manner. The city needed an independent co-educational high school that would maintain the excellent standards available in the public schools and would also be sensitive to the ever changing concepts of learning. Thus conceived, the school developed its independent formidable character.
