Morning walkers given tips on abdominal problems

Patiala- Every fourth person in India is suffering from abdominal and gastric problems due to faulty diet and unhealthy life style and fast food is one of the major sources for acidity as it is heated many times before human consumption. Acids are essential for the digestive functions in the body but in reasonable quantities and, acidity in the elderly people with recurrent reflex of gastric contents may indicate cancer of the stomach and require immediate medical attention. Similarly taking drug combinations for longer periods may lead to acidity, chronic gastritis and ulcer formation in the stomach which can be suspected from presence of blood with sputum or vomiting, chronic abdominal pain, unexplained vomiting and nausea episodes. The preventive measures include small and early meals during night hours, keeping head end up during sleep, taking medicines in the morning hours and avoiding spicy and fatty foods.

These views were expressed by Dr. B.L. Bhardwaj, former head of the medicine department in Rajindra Hospital Patiala while interacting with morning walkers in Polo Ground in Patiala during the biweekly Health & Fitness Talk, a programme being organized by city NGOs Society for People’s Welfare & Awareness and Polo Ground Friends Club. Coordinator of this health awareness programme for the citizens, Dr DS Bhullar stressed for awareness on proper hand washing before meals which can drastically cut down the incidence of a number of abdominal problems.

Director Sports Punjab Amrit Gill lauding the initiative of Patiala citizens for participating in such medical interactive programmes, said the modern generation has developed wrong food habits due to negative awareness leading to rise in health problems and we must go back to the basic food habits of our elders with simple diet to get rid of modern food related ailments. More than 100 morning walkers participated in the programme including prominent citizens Upkar Singh Virk District Sports Officer, Superintendent Police Manjit Singh Brar, Distt Training Officer First Aid Jaspal Singh, advocate IPS Saini and eminent social worker Retd. Col. Karminder Singh.
