Rupnagar District Magistrate Dr.Preeti Yadav has banned the movement of heavy vehicles on  new bridge over Sirhind Canal near Radhasoami dera in Rupnagar city for movement of heavy vehicles.

During the road safety meeting held at district administrative complex, the executive engineer, Public Works Department (B&R) informed that the condition of this circular road is deteriorating day by day due to movement of heavy traffic on the road and  bridge over the Sirhind canal near Radhasoami dera in over Sirhind canal.  Keeping this in mind, District Magistrate Dr. Preeti Yadav has banned the movement of heavy vehicles on  the new bridge.

District magistrate said that the school buses would not pass through the road along the canal. These buses will pass through Giani Zail Singh Nagar road and drop off children at various places.

He said that now the traffic coming to Nangal, Una, Manali would pass through Nangal flyover near Nirankari Bhawan and near the railway station (Nangal railway crossing). Similarly the traffic coming from Jalandhar side would enter the city through Rupnagar head works and after  passing through the new bus stand and in front of the  DC office  IIT road and Rupnagar bypass will lead to Chandigarh side and this route will also be adopted for going towards Jalandhar side.

The District Magistrate further said that no commercial vehicle would pass through this bridge built on Sirhind canal and only farmers’ vehicles would be allowed to pass on this road.

It was also decided in the meeting that a low head barrier would be erected by the Executive Engineer Public Works Department (Central Works) near the bridge near Radhsoami dera so that heavy vehicles could not pass through this road.
