MRS-PTU all set to establish Center of Excellence for Skill Development and Training

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRS-PTU) Bathinda will soon establish a Center of Excellence at the university main campus to provide updated training in different skill sectors in collaboration with Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM), Chandigarh.

The PSDM has already approved the proposal for setting up the Center, which will start functioning soon.

This was stated by Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu, Vice Chancellor, MRS-PTU during the inauguration of two week Training for Trainers (ToT) Program being organized by MRS-PTU at University Skill Center for all registered centers of Punjab Skill Mission Development (PSDM), Chandigarh. Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, Registrar, MRS-PTU, Bathinda was the Guest of Honour for this occasion.

In his address, Prof. Sidhu thanked Deepti Uppal, IAS Director General, Employment Generation, Skill Development & Training cum Mission Director, and PSDM for financial assistance to the University for conducting this Training Program.

He highlighted the importance of the Training of Trainer model which is intended to engage master trainers in coaching new trainers, who are less experienced in topics or skill or training overall. He said that the ToT programme will build a pool of competent instructors who can then train other people.

He said, “The objective of the training programme is to change management with a focus on the instructor’s training capacity and skills. The Government of Punjab also tends to have a pool of skilled workforce, which will ultimately benefit the growth of the industries and employability as well.

He said Training of Trainer (ToT) focuses predominantly on the ‘sharing of ideas and experiences. The objective of the training programme is to change management with a focus on the instructor’s training capacity and skills.

Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar said  MRS-PTU  being a technical university in this Malwa region has to play a role in this skill mission.

Er. Yadwinder Pal Sharma, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department made tireless efforts and got sponsorship Rs.10 lakh from Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) Government of Punjab for the purpose of expert training working in the field of skill development sectors.

The Main Coordinator of ToT , Dr. Balwinder Singh, Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, GZSCCET MRS-PTU, welcomed chief guest, resource persons, participants and highlighted the basic objectives of ToT.

During the ToT programme the prominent resource persons shared valuable information with the participants.

Sarvpreet Kaur, renowned Leadership facilitator, certified Neuro Linguistic Programmer trainer focused on enhancement of leadership skills and importance of Effective Communication skill. She pointed out that trainers should always keep up-to-date with latest developments, use clear and concise language to instruct, direct and coach. She has been presently working on a project of the Uttrakhand government sponsored by the World Bank to enhance leadership skills for doctors of Uttrakhand State.

Dr. Nimmi from the Department of Law, Punjabi University, motivated the participants to understand the importance and values of your work.

Dr. Pardeep Jindal, Punjabi University focused on developing multiple skills, seeing others success gives a sense of pride and satisfaction and far-sighted people grow and learn makes you feel good.

Kanwaljit Kaur, Incharge Fashion Technology and Fine Arts Guru Kashi University concluded that a trainer should be a role model for trainees.

Dr. Balwinder Singh, Prof. & Director College Development Council delivered an expert lecture on “How to be a Successful Trainer” and explained How to apply knowledge and effective training skills when conducting an actual training course with High energy and enthusiasm.

Er. Sukhvinder Singh, Er. Yadwinder Pal Sharma and   Dr. Satpal Singh, all from the Department of Mechanical Engineering played key roles in organising the ToT programme.

Industrial visits will also be arranged by the Director Training and placement for all the participants in conducting successful training courses.  All Deans, Directors, and HOD’s of various departments of university were present to grace the occasion.  The Central Admission committee presented admission data and informed about the ongoing admission process for academic year 2022-23.
