In the ongoing war against COVID-19 across the World, the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda’s Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology Department has come up with innovative economical technologies/ methods for sanitisation to prevent the microbial contamination from spreading.
The COVID-19 pandemic has ushered in a new era of urgent innovations.Under the leadership of Dr. Ashish Baldi, his team has developed beneficial economical Devices/ products for sanitisation.
While researching the growing problems of common people and new ways to avoid this epidemic, Dr. Ashish Baldi and his research students have developed hand sanitizer and surface cleaner solutions according to the criteria set by World Health Organisation (WHO) and also with neem extract, which everyone can make it at home.
In addition, he has also suggested a unique way to make face shields with easy-to-use hair bands and plastic folders.
According to Dr. Ashish Baldi, washing hands with hot water and soap for more than 20 seconds is the best solution and alcohol based hand sanitizer available in the market is also effective.
But due to lack of availability /shortage of these sanitizers in the market, this domestic herbal sanitizer will be helpful for those who are unable to buy them. The herbal sanitiser can be made at home by mixing Neem leaves extract and Glycerin.
While doing further research in the field, Dr. Baldi also developed a box device, which will cost less than Rs 500. The device will help disenfecting and minimise the possibility of spreading infections from everyday things like vegetables, fruits, poly packaged food items like milk, juice etc., other items of daily use like purse, belt and keys etc.
Giving details, Dr. Baladi said that this device is based on ultraviolet (UV) rays can reduce the chance of infection by 90-95 percent and can be easily made at home.
He further added that one can develop this UV based device in a metal box and keep it at the entry gate for use.
However, he cautioned that ultraviolet rays should never be seen directly with open eyes, nor should it have direct contact with our skin, otherwise serious diseases may occur. Therefore, it is important to take special care while using this device.
These new search products are also being appreciated on social media networks like Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp.
It is worthwhile to mention here that Dr. Ashish Baldi is internationally well- known in the field of research in Pharmacy. In the past he has given two techniques to the pharmaceutical industry. He has also written 3 patents and more than 100 research papers.
MRSPTU, Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar applauded that it is our collective responsibility to contain COVID 19 and through these innovative products of Dr. Baldi, the chances of its transmission in the society will definitely be reduced.
