NABARD CVO visits Bari Watershed Development Project in Rupnagar district
Bahadurjeet Singh/royalpatiala.in News/ Rupnagar,January 31,2026 U.Dinesh Shanbhag, CVO NABARD, along with officials from NABARD Punjab and the Ambuja Foundation team, visited the Bari Watershed Development Project in Rupnagar district—Punjab’s first watershed project supported by NABARD and implemented by Ambuja Foundation.
The Village Watershed Committee of the project welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the developmental works and benefits achieved through the project. The team inspected key structures such as the NADEP pit, farm pond, waste weir, and plantation areas, while also interacting with beneficiaries to understand the project’s positive impact. The CVO and DGM planted Peach saplings as part of the ongoing plantation drive.
Shanbhag appreciated the strong community participation and expressed confidence that the developmental efforts would continue even beyond the project period.

Following this visit, the team proceeded to village Solkhian for the inauguration of a MEDP programme on Food Processing & Bakery, implemented by Mahila Kalyan Samiti with NABARD’s grant support. Under this initiative, 30 women from Self Help Groups will undergo hands-on training in bakery items such as atta cookies, millet cookies, cakes, as well as food processing products like pickles and chutneys.
The programme aims to enhance skills, promote self-employment, and support income generation by enabling self help groups (SHG) members to start or strengthen micro-enterprises in the food processing sector.
