Nabha Power one step short of global recognition; makes it to the finalist at Global Energy Awards 2020

Keeping up with excellence in power generation, L&T’s Nabha Power Limited, has for the second consecutive year made it to the Finalist at S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards 2020 under the category “Award of Excellence-Power”.

NPL competed with various global power giants and has been selected as one of the finalists for its outstanding achievements in Operational Excellence, Innovation and Sustained Plant Performance.

S&P Global Platts is a division of S&P Global, headquartered in London. It is the world’s foremost rating agency and benchmarks the global capital and commodity markets. It has 150 years old history and is a trusted source of information to the business community for bringing transparency and cutting-edge research and analytics to markets worldwide.

Elated by the achievement, Athar Shahab, Chief Executive, NPL said, “Its a global recognition of NPL’s performance, which remains par excellence. We shall continue to strive to beat the best and it has been internalized goal of L&T at large to be the best in whatever we do.”

Recently, NPL also won two prestigious awards at the 21st National Award Ceremony for Excellence in Energy Management, hosted by CII. NPL was adjudged as the National Energy Leader 2020 for its progressive performance for the second consecutive year in Energy Management.

Nabha Power also received the Excellent Energy Efficiency Unit Award for outstanding achievements in Energy Efficiency Category. The plant received this award for the fourth consecutive year.

In past also, NPL won The Best IPP Award for 3 consecutive year at the High Efficiency and Sustainability Leadership Awards hosted by Peabody, USA and the National Energy Conservation Award, BEE, from the Union Ministry of Power, India.

About Nabha Power Limited

The Nabha Power Limited (NPL) is owned by L&T and operates 2×700 MW Themal Power Plant in Rajpura, Punjab. The plant is based on Supercritical Japanese Technology. It was commissioned in February 2014.

The plant has received several national and international awards in its 6 years of operations.

Nabha Power has supplied more than 48,000 MU to Punjab State Power Corporation (PSPCL) and has been one of the highest contributors to meet Punjab’s demand for power by operating at the average Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 73% beating the national average of 55% by a huge margin.

It remains at the top of the merit order among the thermal plants within the State because of its quoted Heat Rate of 2268 Kcal/KWh and one of the cheapest variable cost of power 2.91 Rs/Unit, despite being located at a distance of 1500 Kms from the mine source.

It is also recognized for providing cheapest power to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited amongst all IPPs in the state.
