Residents of erstwhile princely state of India, Nabha ,are now a day’s living a pathetic life.
With the pollution level already high in the area, due to stubble burning, the municipal council Nabha is not far behind in adding to the misery to their lives. The council has set ablaze its dumping site at Circular road.
The smoke in the dump is not only polluting the environment, but it is releasing hazardous gases and foul smell. Smoke emitting from the dumping site , gives the residents of the city a uncomfortable day and sleepless night, making it difficult to breathe and irritation in eyes and throat. The garbage including the plastic and other synthetic material, causes health related problems to the residents of the city.
The municipal council Nabha dumping site spreads in a five acres of land on Circular road, opposite Truck Union on Nabha-Malerkotla road.
The dumping site is also a stone’s throw away from Nabha Cantonment area. Setting the garbage on fire, may invite a major tragedy, as the Cantt area is just a few yards away from the dumping site.
When contacted the SDM Nabha, Kala Ram Kansal , he said “ Yes, I got the information and have asked the Executive officer to take JCB machines and clear the ground.”
When asked who is responsible for this, he said “ I think someone has burnt a heap in the garbage dump. I’ll mark an enquiry and found the culprit who has set ablaze the garbage on fire.”
When contacted the member secretary of Punjab pollution control board Er Kurnesh Garg, he siad ” its a clear violation of the NGT orders. We have already informed the district administration to strictly adhere to NGT orders and not to burn the garbage.”
